Shruthi-1 arrived together with the x0xb0x - since the b0x is more complicated to solder, or let´s say, more parts and therefore more time-consuming, my little shruthi is going to be the first under my finger.
audio-interface-issue has been solved ... i´m going for the MOTU 828 MkIII Hybrid ... lot´s of connections and a very good built quality, also sound-wise.
and last but not least: i found parts for a simple an rack-mounted but also desktop-like solution for my ucapps-sequencer - its from TipTop-Audio.

a few hours ago i´ve packed the DSI Tetra ... i found out it sounds not as i expected - without a significant signature - maybe i am wrong and in a minority position with this statement. Although i tested this little engine again and again, added modulations, subtle and hardly noticeable ... but it won´t work for me sound-wise.

i think i stay at the moment on the digital side and i restart my analog project once again - so today i ordered this hard to get Tempco resistors for the oscillators

i also thought to buy a Clavia Nord Lead 2X rack ... i found quite many examples on the web and they are convincing ... the only thing which really bothers me is the question if i should buy an audio-interface (Motu or Focusrite) or ... and this is questionable ... a mixer, a small one ... not to big with an audio-interface like on of these Mackie Onyx 1220i - interface and standalone-unit or the other way .... an interface and a standard mixer

not the easiest way ... i hate such decisions

both are good and the sound-quality is outstanding at this price-range

drivers & latency: well who knows, it depends on my whole system, a clean XP-system, i reduced the used RAM on this system to approximately 100 MBs, all unused function have been disabled, the DAW is FL Studio and serves me quite well ... sure not a high-end DAW as Logic or Pro-Tools

routing: is on both given, in fact the Focusrite has much more to offer

standalone: here is where the Motu shines ... fully standalone with this internal DSP-Effects - but crappy to assign on the front-panel .... it could be also transported quite easily, the Focusrite on the contrary has a standalone-mode but not as sophisticated as on the Motu

connectivity: Firewire vs. Firewire/USB .... welll according to Focusrite, my system should work well, VIA-Chips on-board and on a PCI-card

Well, since i have much to do at the moment i´ve just forgot to introduce my first analog synthesizer. It is the DSI Tetra.

This small synth has a very distinctive sound ... and to be honest not so easy to program as i thought. This has nothing to do with the interface or the editor ..... it is more the sound .... i found out that everything has to be programmed very carefully .... the envelopes are quite fast, faster as expected .... pads are therefor not so easy to produce. Bass-sounds by using the unison-mode are quite "booming", smooth but with pressure ....
sequences, if sequenced from a stable tight hardware-sequencer like the Octatrack, are cool but also need some refinements for a cool liquid sound - which i don´t achieved till today but listened to on some web-pages or reviews - it´s possible .... it has something to do with the filter

if you know more about this issue .... please tell me

just as addition: it somehow sounds very sterile, aggressive, without a special sound-signature, not bad, but also not very convincing

After finishing my psychological practical training at a "children flat share", i needed some timeout refreshing my mind an my overall psychological state. I'm currently dig into the different theories of my diploma-theme. As in the science-section on my blog stated the theme is connected to reasoning and probability. To be more precisely, i conducted an experiment with two different versions of a card-tasks, different by nature but for both with the same outcome which is the understanding / interpretation of conditionals. Whereas the first task elates the subjects to interpret displayed sentences based on before presented cards with colors and objects, the second task (or part) of the experiment forced them to built up a representation from scratch solving a card-task by deploying some sort of Modus Ponens for accurate answering (if seen from a problem-space-perspective). The difference can be seen in the presented sentences which acquired certain kind of action by subjects. In the first task, the sentence can be seen "as it is". The second task forced participants to engage in an operation in which the important sentence illuminated "what has to be done". In the light of collected data, i expect differences between achievement potential of subjects regarding the given answers of task 1 and 2.

I am far away saying anything concrete .......... a lot of work and reading is required .... but stay tuned

During the last 8 years I have used so many different kinds of synthesizers, outboards and other helpfully things for shaping my individual style of music. It was a quite interesting learning-curve with different equipment. I started with the Korg Electribes - the EA-1 and the ER-1, followed by a Roland SH32 and a Korg EM-1 (lost all my pictures from these little machines). After selling this cool gadgets because of a painfully financial whole in my pocket - i restarted with the Waldorf MicroQ and the RackAttack but before this path of enlightenment i was going through the dark with the Alesis Micron - a disturbing and awfully sounding Synthesizer. During this epoch i acquired a lot of outboards like the Akai MFC42 Analog-Filter, the the Roland SRV3030D, the Boss SX700 and the Behringer V-Verb Pro. Also the Soundart Chameleon, a quite unique and fully programmable DSP-Unit found for a short period of time a place in my rack. The Behringer BCR2000 should support my efforts but the unit somehow was faulty like the Miditech Midi-Keyboard. The Yamaha A4000 Sampler which broke my nerves was also a megalomaniac invest. In the meantime two Terratec Recording-Interfaces Phase 88 Firewire were bought, two different Behringer Patchbays and one from Neutrik "patched" my rack, another analog filter like the MAM Warp 9 and the first analog basedrum - the Mini Syncussion DRM2 from MAM/TBS have had a guest performance at my base, not to forget the Emagic Unitor8 ... and of course a Korg N1R (cool sound but a pain to edit), and finally the Emu Proteus 2000 a top-notch Rompler.

Thanks God, the time is over and i found "the" gear i needed, not complete jet but not as much and blown up like in the past - the Elektron Octatrack, Waldorf Blofeld and in the near future the Dave Smith Instruments Tetra

Blofeld Keyboard goes maintenance

After a short call with my dealer, i decided to send my Blofeld to service. The worst case will be a timeline between three and four weeks, if it is required sending the Blo to a dedicated Waldorf Service-Station. Otherwise the maintenance, if feasible at the dealers service-center, will take about two weeks - i hope so!

I'm proud to announce that the Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard arrived yesterday. Amazing! The sound is quite different from the older gear I've got - the MicroQ. I will wright a review as soon as possible. All i can say is that the Blo sounds somehow crazy and evil - as the name says ;)

Today is shipping-mayhem from a positive point of view. Every item I've offered for sale has been sold - even my suit, except the Waldorf RackAttack. So this time I've made an auction for this wonderful peace of equipment and it seems, people like it more. Keep your fingers crossed ;).

oh.... there's more: The cables from my old studio (quite a lot), the tablet which i mentioned some posts before and a very handy manual scanner from Easypix is going to be sold on Ebay.

And, after a going inside for a while i decided switching to a more international language here on my blog, which is English. Maybe some parts will be written in German as well since many of the blog-readers are from Austria and Germany. And i think this should happen specially in the DIY-Section.

Some days ago i admitted that i couldn't be able to live without synthesizers ... i tell you this is more true than someone could guess. I also posted a possible combination of synthesizers for a minimal setup. Regarding Blofeld and Octatrack , the decision is quite clear .... more problems appeared with the two analog models (Moog Slimphatty vs. DSI Tetra) and despite the fact that in terms of design and inputs Moog wins over the DSI, the options (modulation, output & voices) and possibility with the DSI are far beyond the Moog ones. And another thing ... somehow the DSI sounds more strange, not the kind of strangeness resulting from different modulations, but more the general sound ... and this is the point which matters most..

Nun, da ich ja nicht ganz ohne Synths leben kann und die nächste Anschaffung sicherlich etwas kompakter und Live-Orientierter sein soll kommen für mich nach reiflicher Überlegung derzeit und vorerst zwei Produkte in die engere Wahl (Punkt 1. & 2.). EIn dritter Synthesizer sollte analoger nature sein. Zwei Synths kämen hierfür in Frage: DaveSmithInstruments Tetra & Moog SlimPhatty (Punkt 3. & 4.)

Well, living without synthesizers would be shattering. The next logical step will be an equipment acquisition, but this time more live-oriented. After carefully thinking on this matter, actually only two products at the moment are focused for future investment (see point 1. & 2.). A third synthesizer should be analog by nature. Two pieces of gear lay in the focus of interest (see point 3. & 4.) respectively: DaveSmithInstruments Tetra or Moog SlimPhatty.

Schlimmer kanns nicht kommen, ich nenne es CHAOS

Die selbstgewählte Aktion "Alles muss raus" zieht ihre Spuren in sämtliche Bereiche meines Lebens.
Ich habe schon von mehreren Seiten den Spruch gehört: "Ordnung ist das halbe Leben" - und da ist was Wahres drann. Aber es nagt auch an mir, eben weil soviele Baustellen seit Wochen, Monaten, ja sogar manche seit einigen Jahren offen sind. Ein nicht spezifizierbares Gefühl liegt mir im Magen.

In den letzten Tagen hat sich bei mir einiges verändert und viele Dinge stehen daher an angepackt zu werden:

1.) Wohnungssuche

2.) Vieles aus meiner Wohnung muss verkauft werden, da sich ein Mitschleppen in ein neues Umfeld nicht lohnt, dh. die Synths kommen weg und sollen aller Möglichkeit nach durch eine Groovebox mit umfangreichen Synthesemöglichkeiten ersetzt werden: der Spectralis 2

3.) Mit der Kleidung fange ich an und habe den "Systemwechsel" bereits im Ansatz vollzogen

4.) Vielleicht noch ein Digitaler dazu, der Blofeld

Es wird sich verdammt viel ändern, irre, aber macht voll Spass

So, nun ist es da bei Tablet. Gleich mal vorweg es hat ein resistives Display, was die ganze Sache natürlich gewöhnungsbedürftig macht. Allerdings ist das Einsatzgebiet auch nicht Total-Multimedia. Mir genügt es, wenn ich damit etwas surfen kann, gelegentlich einen Film ansehe und Artikel oder Ebooks lesen möchte.

Der Bedienkomfort ist für ein resistives Display erstaunlich gut und mit einem beigelegten Stift halbwegs bedienbar.

Angesichts meines Bedarfs völlig ausreichend.

Müsste ich eine Gesamtnote vergeben, wenn man den Preis berücksichtigt (154 Euro) und die aktuellen Referenztablets (Samsung, HTC, Apple) mit einbezieht, käme ich auf die Note "Befriedigend" oder 3,5.

Die Bildqualität ist mit einer Auflösung von 1024x600 mit 160dpi eher schwach, kein Multi-Touch
Der Prozessor (ARM V6 kompatibel) reicht für Video und Musik völlig, für größere Dokumente (Pdf) wohl eher unterdimensioniert, wenn mehrere rechenintensive Apps laufen wirds etwas holprig. Es mag aber auch daran liegen, dass das OS A2.2 nicht gerade optimiert wirkt.
Der Speicher mit 512 MB Ram ist gerade ausreichend, dafür hat er 16GB internen CF-Speicher und der Slot verträgt bis 32GB-Cards
Das OS ist Android 2.2
Apps gibts aufgrund des eher unbekannten Herstellers wenig. Die Standard-Apps, die bereits vorinstalliert sind, reichen für den Einsatz völlig. Die meisten Video-Codecs werden angenommen.
Die Cam hat 1,5 MP und reicht für Chats aus, die Lautsprecher - solala
HDMI-Port ist vorhanden, 2x USB-Slots, 1x Mini-Card-Slot, 1x Ethernet-Port RJ45, WIFI (Stromfresser!!!!, braucht mehr Energie als ein 2 Stunden Film)
Der Akku ist großzügig dimensioniert
Die Verarbeitung ist, gelinde ausgedrückt, schon etwas dürftig.
Als Tablet zum richtigen Arbeiten würde ich eher davon abraten, für leichte Freizeitaktivität zuhause eigentlich ganz OK. Es gibt aber wirklich besseres.

... also wenn jemand interesse an einer wirklich guten und modernen Acid-Platte/CD interesse hat, der möge sich doch mal jene hier reinziehen:

Der Typ nennt sich sehr sinnig: The Flashbulb

So sollte der Sound aus meiner Sicht sein, zwar ist nicht alles erste Sahne aber klingt für meine Begriffe verhältnismäßig innovativ und hat auf keinen Fall die Brutalität mancher Acid-Tracks aus den 90ern. Verspielt ist er allerdings in Bezug auf das Resonanz-Gezwitschere der TB303. Er hat auch noch ein paar andere Sachen auf Lager, Glitch-Zeugs, Down-Beats und Dn´B.... interessanter Stil .... höhrenswert.
